Quick!!! Name the top FIVE things you need in a relationship…Okay, you got it? Now, write it down, cherish it and DON’T settle for less.

My top five things?

1. Trust
2. Security
3. Patience
4. Laughter
5. The ability to be myself.

Now, if you had asked me BEFORE I got married, I probably would have answered differently, however after being with my husband for almost 8 years, and married for 5.5 years…my perspective has changed.

When we think about being in relationships we think about all the good things. The gifts we may receive, the love and affection, Valentines Day, celebrating birthday parties together, the feeling that you are never going to be “alone” again…however relationships are not always composed of the good stuff…in fact a relationship is going to be a mixture of some not so good times, really bad times, and really good times. Sorry to burst your bubble…but this is true. Relationships are not always blissful. This is because (can I get a drumroll???) relationships are made up of people, and people are just humans. Yes, it sounds simple, but we often don’t get this when we get into a relationship. As an individual we face challenges, we go through really good times, and really bad times…so our relationship as a result may feel the impact of our exterior situations, this is only natural.

So, again think of five things that you need in a relationship. You notice I said need and not want? That’s because our needs and our wants are usually drastically different! I may want a particular type of wardrobe (what girl doesn’t??), but what I really need, is somebody on the same page as me when it comes to finances.

Think about it and let me know what you come up with.
